Meet John

Meet John McKague, owner of Teeswater Laser. John is an outdoor enthusiast who loves camping, fishing, hunting, or simply spending time outside with friends and family around the fire. After years of enjoying the outdoors, he thought, “Wouldn’t it be great to have a large, portable steel fire pit with a spacious grill that could handle cooking for the whole family?” And so, Great North Grills was born.

Teeswater Laser has been making custom fire pit rings and steel BBQs for years, but John wanted to create something more accessible—something that would allow everyone to share in his passion for outdoor cooking.

We use 14-gauge hot rolled steel from Hamilton, Ontario—some of the toughest, most reliable steel you can get. Every piece is laser cut for clean, precise lines, then hand-assembled by our team who care about quality.

The design is a hybrid: a contained fire pit with a large cooking surface, made for everything from morning eggs at the campsite to evening steaks in the backyard. The removable legs make it easy to pack away or set up, and you can choose from two heights depending on whether you're sitting or standing.

Built to last. Made with local materials. Assembled by Canadians.
When you choose a Great North Grill, you’re getting more than a product—you’re getting something made with pride, built for real life, and ready for years of fireside memories.

Where Flavour Meets Fire!

At Great North Grills, we believe that cooking over an open flame isn’t just about food — it’s about fire, friends, and the freedom of the great outdoors. That’s why we set out to create a grill as tough, good for fires and grilling and proudly Canadian as the people who use it.
